The YUU story

Once upon a time…

Pic-Gill-and-kellieThere were two mums, Gill and Kellie. Frustrated by the sight of seeing young children (including our own) wearing backpacks slung low with no support, we set out on a mission. We wanted to create a bag that would be healthy for growing spines whilst also being desirable for kids. Inspired by the stresses and boredom that often presents when getting out and about or travelling with kids, we decided to design and invent our own activity bag. We wanted something that would offer comfortable support and care for children’s backs whilst offering organised storage for all their bits and bobs and a means by which to entertain kids on the go.

In 2010 the YUUbag was created – an innovative 2-in-1 activity backpack that cleverly combines a portable entertainment station with a durable, premium quality ergonomic backpack. We spent hours (okay months!) listening to what mums and kids wanted and ensured we captured all of this and more within the design of the YUUbag.

YUU and the Dragons

A little help from our friends…

In 2012 we ventured into the Dragon’s Den and received offers from all five dragons who loved our YUUbag.

Watch the winning pitch of Dragon’s Den here and see why Peter Jones and Deborah Meaden were so keen to be a part of YUU.

My son was given a you activity bag at the age of 6. I can’t tell you how much he used it, what a fabulously practical and comfortable bag. It is still going strong 5 years later. It was a no brainer that when he moved up from juniors school that we get him a you school bag. With so much to carry now it’s the only bag that could keep all of his books near and flat with everything else he has to carry. He never struggles to manage the bag, no matter how much he crams into it! Just brilliant.

My daughter wanted this for her birthday after seeing her friends, have to say I am very impressed with it! Has everything a girl can need and the amount of compartments is impressive! Wish I was a child again so I could have one😊

“Children’s spines grow and develop rapidly, especially in adolescence, and it’s imperative that correct posture is maintained and care is taken in these formative years to avoid problems later in life. Many children carry substantial weight to, from and around school on a daily basis. Often the weight of the rucksack pulls children backwards which in turn prompts them to lean forward or arch their backs to keep the weight centred. Over time this position can compress the spine causing pain and discomfort. We would always advise parents to invest in a supportive backpack” – Annie Khenian, Paediatric Osteopath
